We aim to make the content on this website as accessible as possible to all our users.

This accessibility statement applies to the science.police.uk website.

This website is run by The Office of the Police Chief Scientific Adviser (OPCSA). We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

As noted above, the Police Science System interactive graphic is not fully accessible with a keyboard, but all content is available via the main navigation. Success Criterion 2.1.3 Keyboard (No Exception)(Level AAA)

Some images may not have a suitable text alternative. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).
We have an ongoing process to identify and add image descriptions to all images.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services; however, we do not currently have any such documents.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

This website was last tested on 13 March 2026 against the WCAG 2.2 AA standard.

The test was carried out by our website developers millipedia.

A representative sample of pages was tested using the WAVE accessibility evaluation tool, Google Lighthouse, and manual inspection.
