New funding opportunity to strengthen public trust and confidence in policing

news

A new funding opportunity has been launched to support innovative approaches to understanding and improving public trust and confidence in policing.

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is seeking to fund a Research and Innovation Consortium that will bring together researchers, police forces, communities and partner organisations to develop and test new, inclusive approaches.

The consortium will focus on improving how trust and confidence are measured, ensuring that the views and experiences of a broad range of communities are captured and understood. Particular attention will be given to groups whose voices are often underrepresented, including children and young people under the age of 18, and victims of violence against women and girls.

By bringing together expertise from across policing, academia and communities, the programme aims to generate new insights that can help policing build stronger relationships with the public and better understand the factors that influence confidence and legitimacy.

The successful consortium will develop methods that provide a more complete picture of public perspectives, helping to inform future policy, practice and decision making.
