Work to develop the Science and Technology Profession for Policing is moving into its next phase, with plans for a future Police Science and Technology Academy continuing to progress. The programme is focused on ensuring policing has the skills, knowledge and capability needed to respond to emerging challenges and make the most of advances in science and technology.

Over the past year, extensive engagement with forces, academia and partners has helped build a clearer understanding of the current workforce, future requirements and opportunities for growth. Research, surveys and workshops have highlighted the breadth of expertise that already exists across policing, while also identifying areas where additional development and support could strengthen future capability.

The next stage of the programme will focus on turning these insights into action. Alongside continued work to shape the Academy, there is a growing focus on developing future talent pipelines. This includes exploring opportunities to work more closely with schools, colleges, universities and youth engagement programmes to increase awareness of science and technology careers in policing and inspire the next generation of specialists.

As technology continues to evolve, policing must ensure its workforce evolves with it. Engagement activity has helped identify the skills and capabilities that will be increasingly important in the years ahead.
